What the under-Rs-500 Freedom 251 smartphone could offer!

Believe this! A smartphone is being made available by an Indian manufacturer under Rs 500.

Noida-based low cost handset maker, Ringing Bells, is launching its ultra-cheap smartphone, Freedom 251, amid much fanfare on Wednesday.

With the new device, the company is looking to promote the Indian government's Make In India initiative, and empower "India to the last person, transforming India's growth story".

In its launch invite, the company has stated "The phone will be popularly priced at under Rs 500. This event and launch stands as a true testimony of success of the latest initiatives taken by the Government of India".

The event will see participation of top Government officials, including Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, and also the BJP stalwart Murali Manohar Joshi.

Well-informed analysts in smartphone space said the move to market a smartphone below Rs 500 is "beyond imagination" as the "labour costs itself had been pegged at $5-6 for making such devices locally".

"If they're able to market at Rs 500... having a cheap hardware then I think they're subsiding the device by bundling several software services for which the company might be receiving commission," said Neil Shah, partner and director at Counterpoint Technology Research.

"It would be interesting to see whether the device works on an android version", he added.

Previous efforts towards launching a low-budget quality smartphone with attractive features had gone futile pushing the manufacturer to stop the program for lack of good market response.

Mozilla had abandoned efforts to market its ambitious $25 smartphone that's powered with Firefox OS on lack of " sufficient traction" and had instead turned its attention on " efforts that provide a better user experience, rather than focusing on cost alone."

In a related note, Mozilla said: "We will eat our own fox food. It's incredibly hard to build, make decisions and provide feedback on a product you don't use everyday."

Analysts expectations about the device are follows:

Screen is being pegged at around 3.5 inches
The picture quality would be below the standard Video Graphics Array(VGA) that provides 640*480 pixels
Processor - MediaTek variant that's manufactured by Spectrum
RAM is seen to be around 250 MB
A run on Android OS will make it incredibly good. However most expectations rest on Firefox OS

This is the fourth title that Sania and Martina have won this year. Their overall trophy count now stands at 13. They started the year with wins in Brisbane and Sydney before completing a hat-trick of Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open.

Health benefits of vinegar revealed!

Vinegar has always tasted great with french fries and made your glassware sparkle, but the miracle liquid’s amazing natural remedies and natural cures were unknown to many.

In ‘The Healing Powers of Vinegar’, by Cal Orey, readers will discover countless vinegar benefits and natural remedies.

Nutrition aside, vinegar has been a trusted natural remedy that your mother, grandmother, and their grandmothers have known.

The natural cures it provides can be used from head to toe.

Scalp problems such as dandruff, athlete’s foot, yeast infections, even headaches are no match for this natural remedy.

Vinegar can also be used as a cosmetic natural remedy to produce natural cures that help protect and beautify your skin!

New evidence shows that both red wine and apple cider vinegar benefit everybody.

Nutrition experts say that no single food or supplement can prevent cancer.

Amazingly, however, vinegar is considered a “weapon” against cancer, according to scientists at the A.P. John Institute for Cancer Research.

This also may come as a surprise – Apple cider vinegar may be just the remedy to help you stave off type 2 diabetes, which usually develops after age 40.

Most people who have type 2 diabetes, much like people with high cholesterol, can control the disease through diet and lifestyle change. And that is where apple cider vinegar comes in.

People from all walks of life — as well as some contemporary medical experts and vinegar pioneers — believe that apple cider vinegar aids digestion, helps maintain weight, and keeps blood pressure down.
It’s also known to relieve congestion and maintain healthy skin.

Mourinho tells friends Manchester United job is his: Reports!

Jose Mourinho has told friends and associates that he will replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager at the end of the season, according to reports in several British newspapers on Wednesday.

The Daily Mail, Daily Star, Daily Mirror and Daily Telegraph all quoted an unnamed source close to the 53-year-old Portuguese as saying his installation at Old Trafford was a "done deal".

The former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto coach was sacked by Chelsea in December but said in an interview last week that he would soon be back in management, preferably in England.

Van Gaal, who has another year left on his contract after this season, has had to deal with constant speculation about his position after United made a stuttering start to the season.

The Dutchman said on Sunday he thought reports of negotiations between United and Mourinho were an invention of the media.

Top ten tips for your first day at the gym!

Heading to gym for the first time may be a little daunting but keeping note of a few things can make the experience easier. From setting yourself a goal to rewarding yourself when you achieve it are some of the factors that can keep you motivated and inspired.

Celebrity fitness trainer Fabrice Le Physique, owner of Munsterfit, an exclusive personal training gym, has shared his top tips on how to enjoy workout sessions, reports femalefirst.co.uk:

* Set yourself a goal and don’t be afraid to reward yourself when you reach it: Whether you want to lose weight or just tone up, by setting yourself a target you are already visualising your result. Why not make a deal with yourself? Once the goal is reached, treat yourself to a new dress, a holiday — a well-deserved prize.

* Make sure your goal is realistic: As much as everyone would love to lose 10 kg in just three weeks, it is just not possible to do it in a healthy way. Making your short-term goal reachable gives you the motivation to keep going every time you hit a target.

* Ease into it: It is important not to push yourself too hard on the first session. Starting with a gentle routine can help avoid injury. Training at 50 percent of maximum effort allows the body to gradually adapt to a long-term exercise routine. Also, by starting slow, you are three times less likely to give up.

* Be prepared: Planning a workout in advance helps make the most of your time at the gym.

* Ask questions: Seek advice from a fitness instructor if you are using a commercial gym. Booking a couple of personal training sessions can give you a good kick start as well as giving you a good understanding of the gym’s equipment.

* Train all parts of the body: It can be easy just sticking to running or cycling, but this could mean you focus too heavily on your legs.

* Avoid just sticking to machines: Make sure you add in a mixture of body exercises such as push ups, crunches and chin ups. This encourage exercise at home, in-between, or in case you miss a gym session.

* Use free weights during your workout: Ensure you use free weights during your routine. They can offer a great variety of exercises and also strengthen and tone core muscles within the body.

* Ditch the junk food: Opt in for healthier food alternatives to help speed up your success rate.

* Consistency is key: We are creatures of routine, so stick to your training plan. Regular exercise will bring results.

Yoga for naturally glowing skin!

Admiring those glowing faces in beauty cream advertisements, we often wonder if we too could have a skin so young and beautiful. Well, it’s not a far-fetched dream anymore! Now even you can flaunt healthy, radiant skin that draws attention. And the good news is: no chemicals and no pricey beauty packages. Just a simple four-letter word – yoga – and a long-lasting glow on the face is yours to keep.

But before we talk about the solution, let’s first understand where skin problems such as wrinkles and dark spots stem from.

Some women start wrinkling premature, primarily due to stress or unhealthy lifestyle practices such as smoking, alcohol, drug addiction and wrong food habits.

Acne is common among women of all age groups. Sometimes, it could occur due to hormonal changes in the body. In this case, there’s nothing to worry about because it heals itself with time.

Improper digestion also shows up in the form of pimples.

1. Practice asanas (yoga postures), particularly inverted poses and forward bends, which help increase blood circulation to the head and face area.examples are Cobra Pose, Fish Pose, Plow Pose, Shoulder Stand, Triangle Pose, and Child Pose. These postures also increase oxygenation to the system; as such are called chest openers.

2. For women with oily skin, acne becomes a problem in summer. Cooling pranayamas (breathing exercises), such as Sheetali and Sheetkari, provide cooling effect and retain skin glow. Also, learn the Jalneti technique at Sri Yoga and practice it everyday. It facilitates physical and emotional cleansing. The Shankh Prakshalan process taught at the course is also very effective in this regard. Make sure to do it once every six months.

3. To improve digestion, Wind-Relieving Posture (Pavanamuktasana), Kneeling Pose (Vajrasana), Bow Pose (Dhanurasana), Nadi Shodhan pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breathing), and Kapal Bhati pranayama (Skull-Shining Breathing Technique), are good on empty stomach. Kapal Bhati, an effective detoxifying technique, is aptly named so as Kapal means forehead and Bhati means glowing. Detoxification happens through forceful exhalation, the first effect of which shows in the form of naturally glowing skin.

4. Meditate twice a day. The more you do, the more you will radiate from within and without. Who needs makeup then? Meditation will be your natural makeup that lasts long and makes you look beautiful!

5. Practice at least 20 minutes of facial yoga exercises everyday at home. These will help tighten face muscles. Massage your jaws to reduce stress, massage your eyebrows for a dose of instant relaxation, try the ‘kiss and smile technique’ (push out your lips as though to kiss a baby and then smile as broadly as you can) to exercise your face muscles. To naturally remove toxins from the system, doing some fast-paced yoga exercises such as quick rounds of Surya Namaskar, which make you perspire, is also a good idea.

Note:
Take the tips mentioned above as preventive more than curative. Regular yoga practice will keep acne worries at bay and keep you glowing longer. Gift your skin a Part-I or Sri Sri Yoga Course today!

Ten steps to healthy eating!

At an age where one is expected to work in a dedicated manner, we often end up compromising with our health. While many people would agree that a good fitness regime helps keep such risks at bay, it may just not be good enough. Choosing and following a good and healthy diet can help you there. Even with a stressful lifestyle, one can minimize the risks by choosing the right food to eat.

But is choosing the right food enough?

No. Along with the right type of food, we must also learn how to eat it right way. While there is no set guideline to follow, a general idea of do’s and don’ts can do wonders.

See what you are eating
Observe your present diet. What is it that you eat more? Are you consuming too many calories in your diet and don’t have enough time to burn them? Then you should probably consider eating something that is less fattening and easy for your body to digest. A couple of minutes spent doing basic yoga postures will help you burn those extra calories.

Choose green leafy vegetables
Make sure to add green leafy vegetables to your diet. They are a rich source of proteins, iron, calcium and fiber. Green leafy vegetables are easy to prepare and quite appetizing too. Also, a short course in Ayurvedic cooking will help expand your menu.

Know when to drink water
We all remember studying during school phase that our body is 70% water. It is essential that the body receives its much needed daily dose of minerals through water. Drinking plenty of water helps detoxify the body as well as gives you a glowing skin. Although, we should avoid drinking water during meals as it slows down the digestion process. It is advisable to have water 30 minutes before or after having your food.

Include enough proteins in your diet
Proteins are vital for the body and should definitely be included in the diet. Broccoli, soybeans, lentils, asparagus and spinach are some commonly found protein rich foods. Low-fat dairy products are also a rich source of proteins. Insure that your body receives the required amount of proteins daily.

Chew your food
Have you seen cow chew their food? A cow chews its food at least 40-60 times.

One of the easiest and obvious ways to digest food is to chew it. Most people often eat their food in a hurry and tend to skip chewing their food properly. While what you eat eventually does get digested, but a barely chewed morsel takes more time and tires your digestive system. Besides, the more you chew your food, the easier it becomes for your stomach to digest it and the more calories you burn moving those jaws.

Keep away from fast-food and soft-drinks
Although it may appease your taste buds, fast-food usually does a lot of harm to the body. It can be unhygienic and also high on unhealthy fats like trans-fats. Also, carbonated soft drinks have a high sugar content which may lead to obesity, diabetes and dental caries. Instead of these harmful drinks, choose to refresh yourself with a glass of buttermilk or lemonade.

Cook at home
Instead of ordering pizza from the joint around the corner, use your kitchen and make that dish you’ve been planning on having. You may also prepare your dinner in olive oil rather than sunflower or groundnut oil and make it healthier. Cooking at home is a very good investment as it lets you spend more quality time with your family.

Focus on your food
Most of us have our food while texting on the mobile phones or watching television and don’t really keep a count on how much we eat. Though your stomach might be full, your brain tells you that you need to eat more and you eventually end up over-eating. If you focus only on your food then you’ll eat only as much as your body requires. So, the next time you sit down for having your meal keep the remote control and mobile phone away for some time.

Never skip your breakfast
Breakfast is perhaps the most important meal of the day as the body prepares itself for the whole day ahead. Make sure you eat a wholesome and rich breakfast before you step out of the house.

Digest your food better
While knowing what to eat and how much to eat is important, it always helps if you can boost the process of digestion. Sitting in Vajrasna (Adamintine Pose) for a few minutes after having food helps you there. This particular yogic posture enhances blood circulation in the lower abdomen and improves the digestive process.

A good food habit helps shape your personality. And this is why ancient sages always preferred consuming sattvic food. Learn here what wonders sattvic food can do for you.

A balanced diet helps keep the body fit and active. Yoga combined with good food habits can make you become more energetic, dedicated and focused person in all spheres of life.

Remember, what you eat is what you become. So choose wisely and eat better.

Now, Chinese buying fresh air from Britain!

BEIJING: An enterprising young British businessman has found a way to mint money by selling bottles of "cool" British country air to monied Chinese in pollution- hit cities.

Leo De Watts, 27, has made thousands of dollars selling bottles of British country air to Chinese buyers at 80 pounds ($115) per bottle.

De Watts says the 580 ml glass jars have been flying out the door, many headed for pollution-plagued Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.

Since launching late last year, his air farming company Aethaer has sold hundreds of containers of clean breeze from windswept locations across Britain -- including Dorset, Somerset, and Wales, CNN reported.
Setting off with a car full of empty jars at 5 am, the team "harvests" air in large nets and seals it in the glass jars before shipping it across the world.

"We have clients who request very particular circumstances for their air," De Watts says.

"Sometimes we'll be at the top of a mountain, other times the bottom of a valley," he explains in a video on the company's website.

Once opened, a jar of pure British air might last just a few seconds, the report said, adding that many customers are purchasing it more as a novelty that will remain unopened.

De Watts now lives in Hong Kong where he can be found selling his bottles of fresh air at local street markets.

In December, Beijing issued its first ever red alert due to poor air quality, closing schools and restricting traffic.

Hoping to cash in on Chinese New Year festivities, the company is now promoting a 15-jar gift set for -- take a deep breath -- the discounted cost of 888 pounds ($1,200).

Funnily enough, for those dismissing the unusual business model as just a bunch of hot air, it is in fact Britain's "cool air" which gives buyers the most bang for their buck.

"The colder air means we can fit more in the container," he said. "When it's warmer, we can't fit quite as much in."

Aethaer follows in the footsteps of the Canadian company Vitality Air, which recently started selling canisters of fresh air from the Rocky Mountains to Chinese buyers. Though at between $14 and $20 per canister, Canadian air seemingly costs a fraction of British breeze.

This mysterious virus is back and is killing iPhones!

An old bug called Error 53 is back in the business to haunt Apple iPhone 6 users with several users complaining that their devices repaired by third-party repair shops are breaking.

The problematic bug resurfaced when a journalist, whose phone screen was damaged while covering a refugee crisis got the device repaired in a third-party store.

While the phone initially performed alright after the repair, a subsequent update of the iOS produced the Error 53 bug making the device useless.

The problem seems to occur for iPhones undergoing repairs that involve replacing the home button that also has the Touch ID fingerprint sensor or replacing the display. The error seems to be affecting only iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users at the moment though the jury is still out.

Apple acknowledged the issue following complaints from the users and released a statement saying that Error 53 was the result of security checks performed after installing an update, especially the ones that pair the TouchID to the internal Secure Enclave chip.

According to Apple, if the iOS finds a mismatch between the TouchID sensor and other components of the device, the check fails and the sensor is disabled. The Cupertino-based firm said the if the consumer encounters Error 53, they should contact Apple Support.

To educate its iPhone users, Apple has a dedicated page for Error 53, where it clarifies what’s happening.
"When iOS finds an unidentified or unexpected Touch ID module, the check fails. For example, an unauthorized or faulty screen replacement could cause the check to fail. If the check on Touch ID fails, your update won't finish. You'll see a Connect to iTunes screen on your device or a message like this in iTunes on your computer: The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (53)," Apple said on the page.

The global tech major has listed the most common troubleshooting steps to overcome the Error 53.
For iPhone users who had gone for replacement of screen or any other parts at third-party sources, Apple suggests contacting its exclusive Support centres about pricing information for out-of-warranty repairs.

Why do iPhone users go to third party service providers for repairs?

The answer could be simple as Apple's service charges are quite expensive. It is learnt that in many cases involving repairs, Apple does not even offer to repair the device and insists on getting it replaced.

A consumer who approached an authorised Apple service centre in Hyderabad for replacing the broken display told Sify.com that the store had assisted replacing the entire phone for Rs Rs 22,500.

On the other hand, users identified third-party service providers providing similar services for under Rs 10,000 in the busy Jagadeesh market.

How to heal your lower back with Yoga!

The lower region of the spine supports the whole body and any malfunction in it due to either an injury or long hours spent working on computers can affect the working of the whole system. It is also said that approximately 80 out of 100 people suffer back pain or injuries once in their lifetime. To counter this, we can take help of yoga and strengthen the lower back – the natural way.

Let’s have a look at how routine lower back yoga exercises can make us stronger and healthier the easy and natural way.
  • Dhanurasana: The pose strengthens the lower back and abdominal muscles, keeping the whole back flexible.
  • Natarajasana: The pose stretches and tones lower back along with hips and abdominal muscles, making the spine flexible.
  • Setu Bandhasana: The pose strengthens the lower back and provides relief from backache.
  • Matsyasana: The pose eases tension in the lower back, while enhancing blood circulation in the hip joints.
  • Naukasana: The pose strengthens the back along with abdominal muscles.
  • Marjarisana: The pose stretches lower and upper back, and gives flexibility to the entire spinal cord.

Another major contributor to lower back pain is poor posture. Sitting with a hunched back and drooping shoulders can render the muscles in the lower back weak. Bad posture does not limit to just sitting. The way you stand, walk and even sleep can aggravate pain in the back. To avoid this, a conscious effort to improve the posture is required. Avoid sitting slumped down or walking with your back bent.

At work, use a chair that supports your back and lets you sit firmly with feet touching the ground. Also, get up once every hour or two and take a walk. This will help release tension in the back, stretch the muscles in the legs and relax your eyes. Doing office yoga will also help alleviate pain and let you work comfortably.

For better results, meditating for 20-minute after you end your yoga practice is highly recommended. This will help calm your mind, stay focused and enhance your productivity.

Other physical activities like swimming and regular walking also help in relieving the back of pain. Swimming strengthens your entire back, especially when you do backstroke and crawl strokes. So, 30-minutes of swimming daily can keep you away from back problems. Walking is also considered as one of the best exercises to strengthen your lower back. For those who always have a fight for time, 5-10 minutes of walk after each meal is a good option. Remember to focus on walking with a straight posture the next time you head out for a walk.

Obesity increases the pressure on the lower back and thus exposes you to a higher risk of lower back injury. Thus, adopting a healthy eating habit is also important. In addition, adopting an ayurvedic lifestyle along with regular practice of yoga can help accelerate the process of alleviating lower back pain.

While these yoga postures are highly beneficial, people suffering from any back injury or slip disc, are advised to consult their physician before practicing any of these yoga poses or other physical exercises.

How obesity affects the heart!

Obese people without an overt manifestation of heart disease experience silent cardiac damage that fuels risk of heart failure in the future, with new research suggesting that obesity is an independent driver of heart muscle damage.

The findings challenge the commonly held belief that cardiovascular diseases seen in severely overweight people are driven by diabetes and high blood pressure, both well-known cardiac risk factors and both occurring frequently among the obese.

“Obesity is a well-known ‘accomplice’ in the development of heart disease, but our findings suggest it may be a solo player that drives heart failure independently of other risk factors that are often found among those with excess weight,” said Chiadi Ndumele, lead investigator and assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University in the US.

Specifically, the research showed that obese people had elevated levels of a heart enzyme known as troponin T, released by injured heart muscle cells.

Increases in levels of this enzyme corresponded to an increase in people’s body mass index (BMI) – a measure of body fat based on a person’s weight-to-height ratio. Levels of the enzyme rose proportionally as BMI went up.

Troponin T is the gold standard for diagnosing acute or recent heart attacks and is widely used in emergency rooms to test patients with chest pain and other symptoms suggestive of a heart attack.

For the study, investigators measured the BMIs and cardiac troponin levels of more than 9,500 heart disease-free men and women, aged 53 to 75, living in Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina and Minnesota.

The researchers then tracked the participants’ health for more than 12 years.

The findings appeared online in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure.

Why regular exercise is good for health!

Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis – Indians are facing an unhealthy future burdened with a slew of lifestyle diseases. But instead of expensive medication and therapy, the cure lies in making exercise a compulsory part of everyday life, health experts say.

“Indians are increasingly leading a sedentary and machine-dependent life, which may seem comfortable but has extremely adverse effects on health,” T.S. Kler, Head of the Department Cardiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, said.

Kler said with increasingly hectic lifestyles, most Indians in urban areas nowadays do not walk to the neighbourhood store but rather order groceries on phone for home delivery or drive down.

“We do not climb stairs any more, with lifts being omnipresent. Riding bicycles to work or to school is not cool in urban areas any more. Forget adults, this conditioning begins with children who prefer to stay indoors watching television or playing video games rather than spending time in the playground,” he added.

“We all know that cardiovascular diseases are today a major health concern in India. They are the single largest leading cause of deaths in the country, and relatively younger people are today afflicted by coronary artery disease,” the noted cardiologist said.

Various surveys done in India have shown that the incidence of coronary heart disease is 8-10 percent in urban areas and 5-6 percent in rural areas.

Kler said regular exercise can help prevent risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and type II diabetes. It also keeps the weight in check.

“Incidences of coronary artery disease can be reduced substantially if the entire Indian population religiously takes to physical exercise. Even 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily can be immensely beneficial. We need a national focus on this less-talked about subject,” Kler said.

According to Rajeev K. Sharma, senior consultant orthopedics and joint replacement surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital: “Adequate levels of physical activity decreases the risk of a hip or vertebral fracture and helps control weight. In fact, exercise is very crucial for maintaining good bone health, besides adequate intake of calcium.”

“WHO estimates that globally, one in four adults is not active enough while more than 80 percent of the world’s adolescent population is insufficiently physically active. This is a dreadful scenario as all these inactive people are making themselves vulnerable to several health issues,” he said.

Osteoporosis-related injuries such as vertebrae fractures not only cause pain but also degrade the quality of life, curtail movement and increase dependence. Since the bone is a living tissue, it becomes stronger when subjected to exercise, Sharma said, adding that loss of bone mineral density that begins during the 30s can be curtailed by exercising regularly.

“People who exercise are found to have greater peak bone mass as compared to people who do not exercise.”

According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, the malaise annually causes more than 8.9 million fractures around the globe.

“Though exercising can, to a large extent, help in building strong bones, there is a general lack of an exercise culture in India. This needs to change. Schools, colleges and other institutions should take the lead in nurturing an exercising culture.”

Harvinder Singh Chhabra, medical director and chief of spine services at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant Kunj, said Indians generally do not realize the importance of exercising unless hit by an ailment.

“Many patients start walking regularly after back pain or osteoarthritis has already set in their bodies. We tell them they could have delayed it by being active all their lives,” he added.

According to Chhabra, in the West, there is a lot of focus on physical activity and people are moving away from sedentary ways of life. “They are junking television and going for cycling, running, or adventure sports such as rock climbing. This shift is yet to take place in India.”

To make exercise a national culture, apart from awareness, many enabling policy measures are also needed.
“In urban areas, several environmental factors discourage people from leading more active lives even if they want to. Lack of public spaces such as parks and grounds, safety issues on the roads, pollution and irksome traffic do not allow many people to step out of homes to run or walk. This needs to change,” he said.

The latter half of the 20th century has brought substantial progress in disease control due to expansion of health infrastructure. With food and nutritional consumption also improving for a vast majority of population, life expectancy in India has gone up over the years. Experts say that deaths due to communicable diseases have decreased while those from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have risen.

NCDs at present account for 53 percent of all deaths and 44 percent of disability adjusted life-years lost. Projections indicate a further increase to 67 percent of all deaths by 2030. Cardiovascular disease is the major contributor to this burden, attributable to 52 percent of NCD-associated deaths and 29 percent of total deaths.

How to prevent Type 2 Diabetes!

Although the genes you inherit may influence the development of type 2 diabetes, they take a back seat to behavioral and lifestyle factors. Data from the Nurses’ Health Study suggest that 90 percent of type 2 diabetes in women can be attributed to five such factors: excess weight, lack of exercise, a less-than-healthy diet, smoking, and abstaining from alcohol.

Among 85,000 married female nurses, 3,300 developed type 2 diabetes over a 16-year period. Women in the low-risk group were 90 percent less likely to have developed diabetes than the rest of the women. Low-risk meant a healthy weight (body mass index less than 25), a healthy diet, 30 minutes or more of exercise daily, no smoking, and having about three alcoholic drinks per week.

Similar factors are at work in men. Data from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study indicate that a “Western” diet, combined with lack of physical activity and excess weight, dramatically increases the risk of type 2 diabetes in men.

Information from several clinical trials strongly supports the idea that type 2 diabetes is preventable. The Diabetes Prevention Program examined the effect of weight loss and increased exercise on the development of type 2 diabetes among men and women with high blood sugar readings that hadn’t yet crossed the line to diabetes. In the group assigned to weight loss and exercise, there were 58 percent fewer cases of diabetes after almost three years than in the group assigned to usual care. Even after the program to promote lifestyle changes ended, the benefits persisted: The risk of diabetes was reduced, albeit to a lesser degree, over 10 years.

Similar results were seen in a Finnish study of weight loss, exercise, and dietary change, and in a Chinese study of exercise and dietary change.

Simple Steps to Lower Your Risk
Making a few lifestyle changes can dramatically lower the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. The same changes can also lower the chances of developing heart disease and some cancers.

Control Your Weight
Excess weight is the single most important cause of type 2 diabetes. Being overweight increases the chances of developing type 2 diabetes seven fold. Being obese makes you 20 to 40 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone with a healthy weight.

Losing weight can help if your weight is above the healthy-weight range. Losing 7 to 10 percent of your current weight can cut your chances of developing type 2 diabetes in half.

Get Moving—and don’t be a couch potato!
Inactivity promotes type 2 diabetes. Working your muscles more often and making them work harder improves their ability to use insulin and absorb glucose. This puts less stress on your insulin-making cells.

Long bouts of hot, sweaty exercise aren’t necessary to reap this benefit. Findings from the Nurses’ Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study suggest that walking briskly for a half hour every day reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 30 percent.

Tune Up Your Diet
Four dietary changes can have a big impact on the risk of type 2 diabetes.
  1. Choose whole grains and whole grain products over highly processed carbohydrates.
  2. Skip the sugary drinks, and choose water, coffee, or tea instead.
  3. Choose good fats instead of bad fats.
  4. Limit red meat and avoid processed meat; choose nuts, whole grains, poultry, or fish instead.
If You Smoke, Try to Quit
Add type 2 diabetes to the long list of health problems linked with smoking.
Smokers are roughly 50 percent more likely to develop diabetes than nonsmokers, and heavy smokers have an even higher risk.

Limit your alcohol intake
Too much alcohol can lead to weight gain and may increase your blood pressure and triglyceride levels. Men should have no more than two standard drinks a day and women should have no more than one.

Control your blood pressure
Most people can do this with regular exercise, a balanced diet and by keeping a healthy weight. In some cases, you might need medication prescribed by your doctor.

The Bottom Line: The key to preventing type 2 diabetes can be boiled down to five words: Stay lean and stay active.

Playboy goes non-nude with Hemingway's great-granddaughter!

The great-granddaughter of novelist Ernest Hemingway strips off for a revamped issue of Playboy magazine as it abandons full frontal nudity for flirty, more natural shots of women with some, or no, clothes on.

Actress and fashion model Dree Hemingway, 28, is the March Playmate for the first so-called "non nude" edition of the 62-year-old magazine, which hits U.S. newsstands on Feb. 12, Playboy said on Thursday.

Social media personality Sarah McDaniel appears on the front cover in an edition that Playboy describes as showcasing "beautiful women with a very real, relaxed vibe."

In the new-look magazine, Hemingway and McDaniel pose both scantily clad and naked, while partly covering themselves strategically with their hands, bed sheets or rugs.

Playboy, founded in 1953 by Hugh Hefner, announced in October that it would stop publishing nude photos of women, saying they had become outdated due to the plethora of free pornography on the Internet.

Playboy's circulation has dropped from about 5.6 million in 1975 to around 800,000 in recent years.

Former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson was the last person to bare it all for Playboy for the January/February 2016 edition.

Playboy Enterprises Chief Executive Scott Flanders said the new look magazine was a "labor of love." It also contains interviews with actor James Franco, U.S. television news anchor Rachel Maddow, and an essay by "American Psycho" novelist Bret Easton Ellis.

Nutrition diet for cancer patients!

Nutrition is an important part of cancer treatment. The nutrient needs of people with cancer vary from person to person. Eating well means eating a variety of foods that will give your body the nutrients needed to help fight cancer.

It’s important to eat extra calories and proteins to keep you strength up during treatment. Chemotherapy, radiation, and other cancer treatments can be hard on your body, hence making healthy food choices can help you feel better and speed up your recovery.

Choose Healthy Foods like whole grains, pasteurized 100% fruit or vegetable juices, lean meat like fish & chicken, dried fruits. Limit the intake of red meat, processed foods and sugary foods which has lots of calories but very little nutrients.

Lack of appetite is common during cancer treatment. Some treatments can even make food taste unpleasant. Even though you don’t feel like eating, it’s important to get adequate nutrition. Choose high-calorie, nutrient-rich foods such as nuts, beans, puddings, and cooked cereals. Eat small meals throughout your day; don’t wait till you feel hunger.

Some cancer treatments temporarily weaken your immune system. So it’s important to avoid germs that you can pick up from food. Contaminated food can make you ill.
  1. Keep all perishable foods in the fridge until you’re ready to prepare them.
  2. Cook all your meats until they’re well done.
  3. Avoid eating half cooked or soft boiled eggs.
  4. Check expiry dates to avoid food spoilage, and throw away any moldy foods.
  5. Prepare your food on surfaces that are cleaned with soapy, hot water.
  6. Use a separate cutting board for raw meat, fish, or poultry. Wash it thoroughly after each use.
  7. Scrub and rinse fruits and vegetables thoroughly. Don’t eat any fruits or vegetables that you can’t wash easily, such as berries, grapes, etc. Scrub the outsides, even if you don’t eat them, like the rind of a melon.

Great news for the sports fans!

New Zealand thrash Australia by 159 runs in Auckland ODI!

Matt Henry shrugged off the disappointment of missing out on selection for next month's World Twenty20 with a hostile spell of pace bowling that helped New Zealand ease to a 159-run win over Australia in the first one-day international on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Henry, who has been regularly overlooked this summer and then brought in as injury cover, took 3-20 in his first four overs at Eden Park as he and Trent Boult reduced the visitors to 41 for six in their pursuit of 308 to win.

They were helped by an lbw decision against David Warner, who was told not to review by partner George Bailey despite the opener's concerns about the height. Ball tracking suggested the ball would have gone well over the stumps, causing Warner to slam his bat into his pads as he watched the replay on the big screen.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade (37) and all-rounder James Faulkner (36), however, then put on 79 runs to partially resurrect Australia's innings as they chased New Zealand's 307-8. Once Wade holed out at deep midwicket in the 21st over and Faulkner was bowled by Adam Milne in the 22nd, the match was all but over and they were bowled out for 148 in just 24.2 overs. Henry finished with 3-41, while Boult had 3-38.

Mitchell Santner bowled just two balls and took the last two wickets. Martin Guptill top scored for New Zealand with 90, his highest total against Australia and his 29th one-day international half century. The 29-year-old opener, who hit one of his five sixes onto the roof of the stand at the Auckland venue, shared in partnerships of 79 runs with captain Brendon McCullum (44) and 100 with Henry Nicholls (61). New Zealand, who were asked to bat by Australia captain Steve Smith, had initially looked on course to set a total well in excess of 320 but lost wickets at critical times when batsmen looked set to push on. John Hastings was the most economical of the visiting bowlers with 1-39 from 10 overs, while fifth seamer Mitchell Marsh had figures of 2-35 from seven. The three-match one-day international series moves on to Wellington on Saturday with the sides also scheduled to play two tests.

Let's move towards a strong future!
